IC78: Car Seats and Vehicular Transport for Children with Special Needs

A frequently overlooked yet important topic is seating and positioning within the family vehicle. Many families are unaware of the variety of special needs seats that are available to provide their child with the needed and necessary postural support and protection to ensure safety during transportation. This course will provide education on what child restraints are available, what benefits they can offer, and how to go about selecting and acquiring a special needs car seat.

Amber received her master's degree in physical therapy from Northwestern University in 1997, specializing in pediatrics for 16 years. In addition to being an ATP, she became a Child Passenger Safety Technician with special needs training in 2007. She assisted with developing a Special Needs Car Seat Clinic at Monroe Carell Jr. Children's Hospital at Vanderbilt. Currently practices at Nemours Children's Hospital in Orlando in the inpatient rehabilitation and outpatient settings.

Erin Baker, PT, ATP, CPST

Erin Baker has her doctorate of physical therapy from the University of Florida and works as a PT and ATP at Nemours Children's Hospital where she is the head of the seating and mobility clinic. Over the past five years she has run both adult and pediatric seating clinics in the Orlando area. She also received her certification as a child passenger safety technician and helps manage seating needs during transportation.
